Emil Bock was born in Wuppertal, Germany in 1895. He studied German and Theology, receiving his licentiate in 1921. He was a priest and founding member of the movement for Christian renewal and was its leader from 1938 until his death in 1959. Other titles by Emil Bock include Genesis; Moses; Kings and Prophets; Caesars and Apostles, The Three Years; Saint Paul; and The Childhood of Jesus.
The Apocalypse of Saint John

Emil Bock interprets John's rich pictorial language, which is often found harsh and mysterious, helping the reader understand that John deals with the universal problems of spiritual development. This is not merely a detailed commentary on the Apocalypse but a profound and encouraging examination of human needs in today's world. Bock shows how we can read The Revelation to understand Christ's position as leader through danger, both in the present and in the future.

Genesis Creation and the Patriarchs

Genesis contains a world of cosmic pictures that Bock helps us to understand with our modern, prosaic consciousness. His interpretations in no way diminish the majesty of the events; rather, they deepen our appreciation of Genesis as an outstanding, objective work of art. As the dramatic figures of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph pass before our eyes, we learn how each of their lives was related to hidden mystery knowledge.

Caesars and Apostles
Hellenism, Rome and Judaism

Investigations into the origins of Christianity continue to exert a fascination beyond the confines of professional theologians and New Testament scholars. In this major study, Emil Bock provides a fascinating and unusual perspective on the cultural and political milieu in existence at the time of the emergence of Christianity.

Informed by the work of Rudolf Steiner, Bock explores historical events to expose the spiritual undercurrents that shaped Greco-Roman civilization and later Judaism. In particular, the role of the Essenes receives remarkable prominence given that Bock was writing prior to the discoveries of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Bock investigates the esoteric biographies of some of the key figures surrounding Jesus Christ, and describes how their destinies were significantly affected by their encounters with the being of Christ.

Emil Bock (1895-1959) was one of the priest founders and leaders of the Christian Community. The publication of this volume completes the translation into English of Bock's studies on the Old and New Testaments. Other titles in the series are: Genesis; Moses; Kings and Prophets; The Childhood of Jesus; The Three Years; Saint Paul; and The Apocalypse of Saint John.
